Back in 1980...something, a good friend of mine and still is (David), decided it would be fun to start putting on the odd dress and start doing the odd show here and there - "2 Darn Hot" (anyone remember them?! Look at the gallery!!).
These were the days of such local acts as Stiletto Express, Martha Mucklefanny, Beverly Banks, Ruby Hotlips, Lucy, Party Girls, Telsa Girls to name a few.
Any opportunity to have a charity night and we were there, all fighting over the mirrors and mascara and to see who was going to out-do each other in the frock, wig, and new number department. Our highlight was a Shirley McLaine song called "She's a star" - we were loved by all and we enjoyed doing our stuff in and around Newcastle for a good few months.
David then got offered a job in France which was too good to turn down and I was all alone in the world. Say ahhh! What could I do? I know - go out on my own as Gracie La Glitz! Due to my work commitments it didn't last long. Thank God!!
In 1993, Ophelia Balls was released from her cage here and there, and its just really in the last 7 years that I have pushed hard, spent some cash and here I am.
Done loads in the past - worked in Belfast, Gran Canaria, Benidorm as well as working all over the North East of England doing straight, mixed and gay venues. Had a couple of DJ residencies at Mims in Newcastle (no longer there), Blacksmiths at Gosforth, Baja Beach Club in Gateshead - and have loved them all. Love me or hate me, I'm here to stay (well, until me legs pack up anyway!)

Ophelia can be seen up and down the country with full cabaret shows, singing live and performing comedy routines with lots of Fab Frock's n feathers.
As for Ophelia's show and what to expect, well in a nutshell an evening's entertainment with Ophelia can be as big or small as you want. Firstly the act comes fully self-contained if you wish and can be made up of 2 x 45 minute spots with a witty repetoire, audience participation, singing and comedy routines, along with lightning costume changes with well known ladies and fab frocks. Also, the show can be suited to your requirements by arranging Naughty boys and Girls for hen and stag shows.
Ophelia can organise a package just for your evening no matter how small or large, be it in a pub or conference centre. Shows can also be arranged with the following to make your night just that little bit different :
- Fire eaters
- Stiltwalkers
- Discos
- Singers, bands, and individual musicians (bongos, pianists etc…)
- Table magicians
- Comedians (comedy club, stand up)
- Table balloons and decorations
- Photographers
- Go Go dancers
- Naked/semi naked waiters and waitresses

"Things can only get better" - and they are...... an even Bigger wardrobe for a start!!
"Must stop buying" and start selling ,Frock anyone..??
Ophelia will again be working with Adonis Cabaret next year hosting the Newcastle gigs and is currently working on Shows for Christmas 2011 for Corporate hospitality events, including Cabaret Shows with Dancers too....!
Also looking to introduce an online store page for Ophelia Gifts, Imagine drinkin ya coco from a mug with me on , or sleeping with me on a T-Shirt... well keep an eye out for further info...
